What is your favorite song? What brings you back to the days of your childhood? Or, more importantly, what song draws you close to the Christ child and God’s purpose in sending Him? There is an abundance of Christmas music out there but is there one song in particular that deeply speaks to your heart? If so, sing it! Live it! Study the words, experience the melody, and dedicate it to the one who gave you the most amazing gift of all–Himself.
Christmas music seems to bring out the sentiment in us all, much like the smell of cinnamon almonds or fresh pine needles. It’s one of the things I love about music! It helps us remember phrases, poetry, stories and even bring us back to monumental times in our lives that is, a joy, a trial, a special memory like nothing else can. I honestly haven’t sung that song in its entirety for years, but oddly enough I still remember that there are “three French hens, two turtle doves, and a partridge in a pear tree!” Are you singing along yet? That, of course, reminds me of a song I’m sure we could all sing by heart! “On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a partridge in a pear tree!”
It’s official: there are twelve days before Christmas.
